It is important to note that currently there are no regulations in place for laser and IPL treatments, this means that anyone is able to laser your skin and potentially put you at a serious risk of scarring and infection. This is why at Technique we strongly advise researching into who will be carrying out the treatment along with what equipment they will be using.
Nikki trained at the Lynton Clinic in conjuction with the University of Manchester. Lynton is the UK's leading manufacturer for aesthetic and medical lasers and is on the NHS suppliers list. The Derma-Lase DL 2200 Active Q-Switch Nd:YAG Tattoo Removal Laser uses both 1064nm and 532nm wavelengths to remove almost all colours of tattoo. It is a high quality and powerful machine designed to penetrate deep into the skin to remove all of the ink particles.
Active vs Passive Lasers
Many tattoo studios and beauty salons will use passive q-switched laser as they are much cheaper, however they are not powerful enough to completely remove the tattoo, some technicians will modify the machine and/or use dangerous techniques to increase the intensity of the laser, this is VERY dangerous and could result in a significant amount of scarring. You can tell if a laser is passive by the arm being connected by a hose or pipe rather than being articulated (like the picture to the right), passive machines also tend to be a lot smaller.
Active lasers work by breaking the ink particles in your skin into small particles which your immune system then removes. They have a much higher peak power compared to passive lasers which means they can penetrate deep into your skin but for a very short period of time so to reduce the damage the skin.
